Meet MayLena, Administrative Assistant extraordinaire and the newest member of the Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation! And now already a month in, MayLena is hitting her stride and making a wonderful addition to the team.
A graduate of Godwin Heights, Maylena grew up in Wyoming, Michigan and attended Grand Rapids Community College. An athlete in high school – sideline cheer, volleyball and track – she will be returning to her roots as the freshman volleyball coach for Ottawa Hills come this fall.
I recently had the privilege of sitting down and getting to know MayLena.
The best advice I’ve ever received… To never let someone else’s opinion of myself matter more than my own.
This is how I unwind… A glass of wine with either Netflix or a book. I’m currently enjoying Grey’s Anatomy and reading American War.
I dream of vacationing in… Ibiza, Spain. I imagine this to be a perfect mixture of night life, site seeing and nature.
I admire… Michelle Obama because she is a great role model. Although she faces adversity, she holds herself with grace and poise, and I greatly admire that.
I love my new job because… Getting to work with an amazing group of ladies and seeing all the behind the scenes effort they do to contribute to the success of GRPS students.
I like to quote… Do not pray for an A, and then study for a B, by failing to prepare you are preparing to fail.
Please join me in welcoming, MayLena.
