Talking Turkey

For thousands in Grand Rapids, last Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday was more than just turkey and togetherness. Grand Rapids Public Schools’ annual Turkey Trot 5K started off at 8 a.m. sharp, wound through downtown and culminated at the finish line inside Van Andel Arena. Following the 5K, kids of all ages ran the Mini Trot, earning their very own turkey trophy! It was a brisk-but-beautiful morning and runners were in great spirits (walkers, too), maybe with thoughts of the delicious dinner waiting in their future.

Doing their part to create an active, healthy community, more than 3,000 people came out for the Turkey Trot—the biggest year ever. This high-spirited, hilarious race is presented by Blue Care Network of Michigan and raises funds for K-12 athletics programs in Grand Rapids Public Schools. Next year marks the 25th anniversary of the GRPS Turkey Trot. Mark your calendar now!
