A Staycation, Vacation: Your Guide to Spring Break in Grand Rapids

Spring Break in Grand Rapids isn’t just another staycation. No way! It is an opportunity to wrap your arms –not your wallet– around the wonderful world that is West Michigan.

So what if we can’t guarantee a balmy 80 degree day, or blue skies filled with sunshine? What Grand Rapidians can guarantee are days filled with fun, laughter and exploration. A spring break chock full of local attractions that can bring you and yours either indoors or out. Think of it as a chance to experience Grand Rapids like a tourist. This spring break, make your hometown your oyster!

Blandford Nature Center: Open dawn until dusk, take your family and friends along on a 143 acre wilderness adventure. Seasonal scheduling available.

Celebration Cinemas: Kids 12 and under are free, and everyone else is only $5 during Flicks Family Film Festival. Enjoy discounted, selected shows until April 20!

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park: Get up close to butterflies during the Butterflies are Blooming extravaganza, now through April 30.

Grand Rapids Art Museum: All year long, the GRAM features Meijer Free Tuesdays (10:00AM – 5:00PM) and Meijer Free Thursdays (5PM – 9PM). The Spring Break Drop-In Studio experience runs from April 4-8. This hands-on printing press activity will be available from 1PM-4PM.

Grand Rapids Ballet: $5 gets you entrance to this year’s Spring Break production of “The Aquatic Adventures of Johnny Starfish!” Performances will be followed with interactive activities like arts and crafts, costumes and make believe. Spring Break for Kids at the Grand Rapids Ballet will be presented daily, April 4-6 at 9:30AM and 11AM. Tickets sell out fast!

Grand Rapids Children’s Museum: Special hands-on activities and entertainment throughout the first week of April. Thursday nights are Family nights from 5PM– 8PM and admission is only $1.75!

Grand Rapids Public Museum: From April 3-7, the GRPM will showcase both Whales: Giants of the Deep and Creatures of Light exhibits by hosting hands-on activities and crafts. Along with the newly renovated planetarium, a 1928 Spillman Carousel, and a recreated 1890s Grand Rapids scene, the museum will be the perfect place to explore!

Indian Mounds Gem Show: For under a dollar, this interactive experience embraces curiosity through hands-on learning. Hosted by the Indian Mounds Rock & Mineral Club, runs April 6-8, from 9:30AM – 9:00PM on Thursday and Friday, and from 9:30AM. – 7:00PM Saturday.

John Ball Zoo: Now open for the season, visit the more than 2,000 resident frogs, primates, birds and more at this urban zoo! Located just one mile outside of downtown GR, this is a family-fun experience you don’t want to miss. Check for special Spring Break attractions.
