The Community Comes Together!
For many, the opportunity to come together for fun is also an opportunity to make an impact. Over the past few weeks, you might have seen GR8 Sports, Great Kids pop up around town and social media: Grand Rapids Griffins’ games, afternoon Yoga and even the NCAA’s March Madness! Embracing Grand Rapids Public Schools, our generous community comes together to entertain, relax, compete and make an impact.
MOSS Celebrates March Madness
On April 2, millions of Americans were glued to their TVs watching the Tar Heels battle the Bulldogs for the 2017 NCAA basketball championship. This game was the culmination of 17 days of March Madness, and our friends at MOSS know how to celebrate the madness in style. For the 27th year, MOSS hosted its annual bracket tourney for charity. Participants try their luck and skill by picking personal brackets, which they submit to MOSS for a little friendly competition. This year, MOSS chose the Student Advancement Foundation as its charity partner!
Great Girls are at it again!
During Spring Break week, over 20 of the Student Advancement Foundation’s dedicated GR8 Girls gathered at Graye’s Bistro for an extra-special April GR8 Girls Challenge: Community Yoga. The team at AM Yoga believes in the power of yoga and the power of community! So there was no better way to celebrate the April Challenge than an AM Community class. And after class? The group stayed to celebrate and network. Each participant made a free-will donation to GR8 Sports, Great Kids.
Throw for Dough
Spring Break week ended with the Grand Rapids Griffins taking on the Cleveland Monsters at Van Andel Arena. During the game, fans purchased special Lake Michigan Credit Union pucks to throw on the ice for a chance to win $5,000. At the game ending buzzer, the blue rubber pucks rained down on the Arena ice rink. Alas, no one won the big prize, but it was all for a good cause. The money raised from purchasing the pucks was donated to the Student Advancement Foundation!
Thank you to our community for supporting the Student Advancement Foundation and the students of Grand Rapids Public Schools. These fun events help to ensure that after-school sports remain free for the children in the district. GR8 Sports, Great Kids is a program of the Student Advancement Foundation and underwrites after-school sports for K-8 students in GRPS.
