Meet our Intern!

The Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation welcomes our new GR8 Sports, Great Kids intern, Joslyn TenBrink!

Joslyn comes to us as a senior at Grand Valley State University, studying Sports Management and Business.  Prior to attending GVSU, Joslyn received a scholarship to play basketball for Spring Arbor University. However, after sustaining one too many concussions, Joslyn was told it was no longer safe to play competitive sports. Heeding her doctor’s warning, Joslyn chose to transfer closer to home and attend GVSU.

Although she can no longer play competitively, Joslyn has returned to her old stomping grounds in a different capacity, coaching. Now spending some of her free-time as the assistant coach for both the Girls’ JV Basketball and Varsity Soccer, Joslyn is happy to be back once again representing the Jenison Wildcats.

What do you hope to learn during your internship?
I’d like to learn the ins and outs of nonprofit work and the skills associated with it.  Being a part of this nonprofit, I get the inside perspective – which is so different! Because I’m an intern it gives me an opportunity to see if this is something I’d like to do as a career.

Best advice you’ve ever been given?

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” – This quote not only applies to my basketball-playing days, but also life itself. In life, if you don’t take risks and try new things, you may miss out on something great. You must push yourself to live out of your comfort zone in order to make yourself better each and every day.

How do you like to unwind?
After a long day, I love relaxing at home with my family and watching TV.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Definitely settled down somewhere in a position I really enjoy. I don’t like to hop around, I like to be settled.

What would your dream vacation be?

My dream vacation would be to Santorini, Greece. The pictures I have seen are breathtaking and I love traveling to new places.

Who do you most admire?

My parents. They have been the most amazing mentors for me and are always supporting me in everything I do. I truly hope I can become even half of the women my Mom is today.

If you had a super power what would it be?
Mind reader. But I don’t necessarily want to know what people are thinking!

What is your super power?
I am friendly and a people person.

What’s your favorite restaurant?
For dessert, the Melting Pot. But my mom’s cooking!

Join us in welcoming Joslyn!
