Just like that, the first week of school is complete! And the Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation is excited to once again support another successful year for Grand Rapids Public Schools and its students.
A little about us and what we do… We exist to exclusively raise funds to ensure that every GRPS student has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. What does that mean? It means loads of generous individuals, corporations, organizations, community leaders and the like give of their resources to help provide exceptional educational experiences for GRPS students.
One of the ways we do this is through our general fund grants. Every school year we make grants available for projects and programs that help support and create robust academic environments. Each proposed grant is required to fall under one of our five impact areas. These impact areas are Arts Education, Environmental Education, Literacy, Math Science & Technology, and Physical Wellness.
This year, the Foundation is fortunate enough to be poised to fund numerous enrichment trips, extracurricular interests, and tangible items that enhance school programs and make learning more meaningful for students. Grants will be applied to funding enrichment trips to culturally significant destinations, opportunities to link classroom instruction to real-life experiences, repair and replace out-of-date equipment, and will be used to place calculators into the hands of high school students.
Throughout the school year, we will be highlighting stories of the general fund grants in action. Together, we can and we will work to provide our students every opportunity to excel far beyond their potential!
